Hot Flushes and Holy Wisdom: Perimenopause Support for Women Who Are Recalibrating, Not Falling Apart

Hot Flushes and Holy Wisdom: Perimenopause Support for Women Who Are Recalibrating, Not Falling Apart

Welcome to the Sacred Mess

It’s 3 a.m.

I’m wide awake, tangled in a duvet, drenched from a night sweat that came out of nowhere, and blinking at the ceiling like it holds answers. It doesn’t.

I’m not anxious. I’m not ill. I’m not even particularly stressed. I’m just in perimenopause, that gloriously chaotic, soul-stretching season of life that every woman enters, yet almost no one talks about honestly.

So let’s talk.

Not just about symptoms, but solutions. Not just the mess, but the meaning. This is perimenopause support for women who are done suffering in silence and ready to rise, with softness and strength.

What Exactly Is Perimenopause?

Perimenopause is the natural hormonal transition leading up to menopause. It can start in your late 30s, more commonly in your 40s, and last up to 10 years. (Yes, ten. You're not imagining it.)

During this time, estrogen and progesterone levels fluctuate like a badly tuned radio, leading to a range of physical, emotional, and even spiritual symptoms.

It’s not “just” about hot flushes. It’s about identity shifts. Energy recalibrations. Mood swings. Memory gaps. And yes, periods that feel like a blood opera with no intermission.

This phase isn’t your downfall. It’s your awakening.

The Reality Check: What Perimenopause Really Feels Like

Let’s retire the word irregular. These periods are aggressive. Twelve-day marathons. Cramps that feel like ancestral echoes. Pads are changed every hour. I’ve bled through meetings, meditation sessions, and more sheets than I’d like to admit.

One time, I wrapped a hot water bottle in my dressing gown and held it like a sacred relic while making candles. #TrueStory

One moment I’m radiant and loving, the next I’m ready to bite someone’s head off because they’re breathing too loudly. The emotional shifts are wild, but they’re also pointing me to what needs healing.

Night sweats. 3 a.m. awakenings. Vivid dreams. Racing thoughts. I now consider four solid hours of sleep a luxury. And yes, I’ve taken to moon-gazing from my window more than once. Sometimes, the night is my reset.

I once opened the fridge and stared into space, trying to remember why I was there. Libido-wise? Some days, I want to redecorate the bedroom into a love temple. Other days, I’m a celibate monk wrapped in fluffy pyjamas. Sound familiar?

Why This Isn’t Just Hormonal, It’s Holistic

Here’s the deeper truth: Perimenopause isn’t just a biological event. It’s a soulful recalibration. As a wellness coach and midlife woman, I’ve seen how this phase strips away the fluff. You stop tolerating nonsense. You stop hiding your exhaustion. You stop saying “yes” when your body is screaming “rest.”

It’s uncomfortable, yes. But it’s also sacred. This is the midlife portal, and you are walking through it with more power than you know. This isn’t about fixing yourself. You’re not broken. This is about supporting yourself, body and soul. Here’s what’s helping me (and many of my clients) navigate the shift:

Forget punishing workouts. I’m into movement that honours the energy I have. Gentle yoga in my pyjamas. Stretching while the kettle boils. Bed exercises before I sleep. Movement clears cortisol and unlocks emotions. It only takes 10 minutes.

Tracking my cycle, mood, energy, and even dreams has been a game-changer. I don’t do it obsessively, just consistently enough to notice patterns. What did I learn? Full moons amplify my emotions. Caffeine after 2 p.m. guarantees a restless night. And certain days are best reserved for herbal tea and cancelling plans.

Perimenopause support for women starts with self-awareness. Your body is talking. Track what it’s telling you. It dries out everything, skin, eyes, energy, even your sense of humour (some days). I use thick balms and nourishing oils made for mature skin. (Yes, I make my own.) Hydration is healing, from the inside out.

Magnesium calms the nervous system, soothes sore muscles, and helps with sleep. My bath ritual: Epsom salts and magnesium flakes, and no interruptions. It’s my womb medicine, my nervous system reset, my do-not-touch-me time.

I say “no” without guilt now. I cancel when I need rest. I decline invitations that feel like pressure. Perimenopause taught me that my energy is sacred. I protect it like a queen in her castle.

You shouldn’t have to navigate this alone. Whether it’s a therapist, best friend, sister, or soulful online space (ahem, join my VIP List), your healing accelerates when it’s witnessed.

Perimenopause support for women must include the community. This is where the softness lives. It is often seen as the end of sensuality, but I say it’s the beginning of embodied pleasure.

These days, I find joy in: lighting a candle just because, lathering a handmade bar of soap that smells divine, and doing nothing and not apologising for it. Pleasure is a protest. And it belongs to you.

You’re Not Falling Apart, You’re Falling Into Alignment

If no one has told you lately, let me be the first: You are doing beautifully. This season is intense, yes. But it’s also a deep initiation into a more authentic, unapologetic you.

This is perimenopause support for women who are ready to stop hiding, start honouring, and rise with grace, even in the hot mess moments.
